Hidden Voices: Marjorie’s Story

Hidden Voices is a study conducted by Margaret Conroy, PHD Candidate from Lancaster University, which focuses on the experiences of older women who are victim-survivors of domestic abuse.

The aim of the study is to better understand the experiences of older women, who are living with the impact of intimate partner violence (IPV), with a view to improving support services.

In the first phase of this research project, Margaret conducted in-depth interviews with older female victim-survivors of intimate partner violence. The second phase consisted on focus groups and 1:1 key interviews with service providers to get their shared understanding of older women’s supports needs.

Utilising the collected stories of older women interviewed in Phase I, a script was developed and performed by an actor, creating a shared experience of domestic abuse.

This is the story of Marjorie, a 73 year old victim-survivor of domestic abuse.
